Bone Marrow Going Global!

I don't want this important issue to get lost in Kim's health updates and my silly polls. If you're just becoming aware of this issue - please click HERE for the 411.  If you are in the Evanston, IL or Northern VA area please see UPDATE in RED below!)

I can't even begin to describe all the wonderful things that have been happening on the bone marrow front. Special thanks to all of you that have taken the personal step of registering! This small step could save a life!

For those that have chosen to go even further and pick up a weapon and join the fight in a bigger way the events that have transpired over the last couple weeks have been breath-taking and inspiring. A few examples:

- My good friend David (along with several friends from Calvary) ran a great drive at Calvary a couple Sundays ago and got over 200 registrants in ~3 hours work. Great job! Not only that they are working with other leaders in Chicago. I also know they were involved with a drive in Hinsdale (last Sunday) and drives in Evanston and Naperville are being set up as we speak!  They've also contacted family in Baltimore who has committed to helping set up a drive at their several thousand member Korean church. Drives in Tampa, FL and the West Coast are in the works as well.

-KBC tv (Korean new channel) has agreed to do a profile story on Andrew Park to raise awareness in the Korean community around Chicagoland. If you have Korean-speaking only friends that you'd like to inform please direct them to this news story in the Korean Daily at this link HERE for a recent story on Andrew Park done by a Christian reporter, Grace Lee

- My company (GE) is moving forward in a big way. After sharing my story there are now several senior leaders in the company that are very focused on raising awareness on a national level and working on sponsoring bone marrow drives on a local level across the country - especially among APA employees (Asian-Pacific Americans). I love you GE!!! (p.s. if my HR guys are reading this and I should not be mentioning GE - then please let me know asap and I'll delete this)

Yul and I share the exact same body-type.
- Yul Kwon (winner of Survivor: Cook Islands) has reached out to help (his best friend died from this issue) and he's been a great resource in connecting me with all of his contacts in Chicago and across the country. He's also agreed to come speak at  GE's National Leadership Conference in D.C. if it all works out.

- I just got an email this morning from one of my good pastor friends (Eddie B) in Seoul who just agreed to answer the call and is moving things forward with his church. Eddie is the lead pastor of one of the largest English ministries in one of the largest churches in Korea (Onnuri Church) with thousands of members and with powerful influence among the spiritual and political leaders across the nation. He has been fighting the good fight internationally against sex trafficking and despite his busyness has agreed to take on the fight against bone marrow cancer as well!

- I also got a FB message recently from a pastor friend in Australia who has also agreed to reach out to his church along with other pastors in Australia to join the fight!

We are all playing a small part of something that is much bigger than all of us, and God is most definitely "at work"....
"Be a part of something so big, that if God is not in it - it's destined to fail."
It's mind boggling what has transpired in about two weeks time. God is so good and there is no doubt in my mind that HE is moving in a powerful way in the hearts of His children. Things are happening quickly - please pray that the momentum doesn't die and many lives are saved (physically and more importantly spiritually) as so many witness the face of Christ through the body of Christ.
"By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” -John 13:35
I close with the immortal words of the lead singer of U2:
“And this wise man asked me to stop. He said, “Stop asking God to bless what you’re doing. Get involved in what God is doing — because it’s already blessed.” –Bono
DO YOUR PART
It's not too late to join the fight! Registering your bone marrow is not enough....run a drive at your church or your village, ask your company to get involved financially and with company-sponsored drives, raise awareness by spreading the word on Facebook and Twitter (redeem that cursed social media!) and tell the story!!

Too many lives are at stake and time is of the essence....

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:13

  1. Peter, we are having a bone marrow drive on the February 19th at one of the largest Korean churches northern Virginia, Open Door Church. There will be more info, so you can tell all your connections to get maximum exposure. Also, the bone marrow drive in Evanston is from 9am to 2pm at:

    Soapie;s Cleaners
    516 Dempster Ave.
    Evanston, IL 60202

Please post on your blog and Facebook.
I also have drives in the works in the greater Tampa area and in the west coast. I also have been in contact with my Uncle who is very connected in the world of government, Lee Hong Koo. He was a the prime minister of Korea in the mid-eighties. Our family rarely if ever talks about him or name drop in general, but we decided that we would use his influence to help further the cause of bone marrow registration.

I know that you have started plans for really big things, but I hope that we can advertise all the smaller events as well. One person in the registry can save a life. I am praying that we will continue to work together logistically to work more efficiently on this push for awareness and registration.

Also, if you could post a link to an article that the Korea Daily news in Virginia, by a Christian reporter Grace Lee, that is being spread to all their branches that would be great. It could benefit the Korean speaking sector. I know that english speaking may be a target, but the younger Korean speaking population needs to be tapped as well. Every single person register is possible for a match for kids like Andrew or Connor.

Thanks again Peter for all that you have done. I appreciate the fervor and passion that you are showing by campaigning for this cause. I am not gifted in the area of organizing like David Kim, Paul Kim or others that have helped organized drives. So it's nice that you and others are taking the lead. The Park family appreciates it. Please contact me with any questions or comments.

    In Christ Love,
    Joe

  3. Hello Peter,

I don't know you or Kim personally but we have mutual friends. I found your blog on a friend's facebook. Thank you for sharing what you and Kim are experiencing and the hidden blessings you're receiving from the Lord through this difficult time. It's been a huge encouragement to me and I'm sure others feel the same way.

I'm actually writing in regards to Andrew. It's a small world! I live in New Jersey and Andrew is my good friend's nephew. I was contacted by my friend's sister last night and she asked us if we can host a drive at our church. We'll be hosting 3 drives in central and north jersey. I'm sure you get readers from all over the country and I was wondering if you'd like to post up info on our drives so we can get as many people in the area registered as possible. Please let me know if you need any additional information. My email address is hanna@gccnj.org.
